The following is the Chaplain's Message and Prayer for
a Remembrance Day Cenotaph Service as delivered by Pastor
Lloyd Strickland in 2004 in Clearwater, BC. The order of
service is the same in every community in Canada and can

MESSAGE AND PRAYER - Padre (Legion Chaplain)
Canadians have long remembered their fallen by building monuments such as
this, cenotaphs is the traditional term. Reading the inscriptions on these
as one travels from village to village and city to city in this great land,
provides the viewer with a special insight into the emotions that come to
the surface as we struggle to pay homage to those who died to preserve our
freedom. Today is our opportunity to remember. We remember: we remember
the images: ships tossed in the air by explosions, we remember men falling
beside their friends... we remember telegrams coming to the doors of
neighbours, husbands never to return; sons and daughters whom were loved
and lost. We remember with pain, but we remember....so that their sacrifices
will never be taken lightly nor forgotten.
Let Us Pray
Loving God, as we gather here today our hearts are full of memories of
friends, comrades, and countrymen who served under arms in wars fought for
freedom. We come to remember those who fell in battle and those who, while
they did not die, offered their bodies, hearts, and energies fighting for
a better world. We ask Lord that you would grace us with your presence,
that you would help us in our pain, and that you would hear our prayers
and have regard for our thoughts this day. Bless us and bless all those
who gave the best of themselves for our country we ask it in Jesus' name.
AMEN.
